EXPERIENCE
Like her father Roy Barnes, Allison Barnes Salter knew she wanted to be a lawyer at an early age. She saw firsthand the impact an attorney could make on people’s lives, and her experience has done nothing but solidify those early impressions.
Mrs. Salter comes to Barnes Law Group from the Cobb County Solicitor General’s office, where she prosecuted misdemeanor crimes and conducted numerous bench and jury trials as an Assistant Solicitor General.
Prior to that, she clerked for United States District Court Judge Thomas W. Thrash, Jr., drafting decisions for such issues as approval of class settlements, employment discrimination, First Amendment violations, contracts, and the Federal Wiretap Act.
Mrs. Salter received her J.D. cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law, where she was a member of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law, and her B.A. cum laude from Furman University in South Carolina, where she studied Political Science and History.
NOTABLE CASES
- Estate Litigation: Served as trial and appellate counsel in Melican v. Parker, which led to an appellate decision where the Georgia Supreme Court unanimously rejected claims by a mistress of a millionaire Marietta auto dealer, finding she was not entitled to receive an annuity of $7,900 a month for the rest of her life. Barnes Law Group successfully recovered this money and property back for the Estate of Harvey Strother. Also, the Supreme Court agreed the mistress was not entitled to other gifts including property in Florida and Cape Cod.
- Estate Litigation: Successfully defeated summary judgement brought by the mistress of a wealthy Marietta businessman for the admission to probate of three codicils to the businessman's will.
- Estate Litigation: Served as appellate counsel in Deering v. Keever where the Supreme Court of Georgia unanimously applied the liberal amendment policies of the Civil Practice Act to a caveat to a will, reversing the trial court that had dismissed the caveat as untimely.
- Slip and Fall: On behalf of a slip and fall victim and her husband, obtained a six-figure settlement against a metro-Atlanta restaurant.
- Auto Accident - DUI: On behalf of a husband and wife injured by a drunk driver, obtained a six-figure settlement.
- Landowner Defense: Successfully defended a rural landowner against a hundred-plus count accusation resulting in no jail time for the accused.
